SURINAMESE AMBASSADOR TO GHANA ENDORSES AFRO-CREOLE LANGUAGES WEEK 2026
27 August 2026
Accra, Ghana — We are delighted to announce the endorsement of Afro-Creole Languages Week 2026 by Her Excellency Fidelia Graand-Galon, Ambassador of Suriname to Ghana. The endorsement follows a meeting between Her Excellency and the initiative’s Founder, Ifẹ́ Thompson, held on 27 August 2026 in Accra, Ghana.
We are also honoured to announce that H.E. Fidelia Graand-Galon will be a speaker at the virtual launch of Afro-Creole Languages Week on 1 September 2026 at 8 PM [UK Time]. In a powerful celebration of linguistic diversity and African heritage, Her Excellency will address participants in Sranan Tongo, Suriname’s widely spoken creole language, alongside English.
Ifẹ́ Thompson, Founder of Afro-Creole Languages Week, welcomed the Ambassador’s endorsement, describing it as an important step in building greater international recognition for Afro-Creole languages and the communities that speak them.
Taking place from 1–8 September 2026, Afro-Creole Languages Week brings together communities, activists, academics, artists, cultural leaders and language advocates from across Africa, the Carribean and the Americas to celebrate the Afro-Creole languages they speak.
