Founder of Afro-Creole Languages Week, legal advocate, barrister and United Nations Fellow Ifẹ́ Thompson, joins CBC News Barbados' flagship programme, Good Morning Barbados, to announce the launch of Afro-Creole Languages Week.

The interview introduces the global initiative, which celebrates Afro-Creole languages, cultures and communities while advancing language justice and raising awareness of the importance of Afro-Creole languages as expressions of history, identity and cultural heritage.

Held annually from 1–8 September, Afro-Creole Languages Week brings together communities, educators, artists, researchers, policymakers and organisations from around the world to celebrate the linguistic heritage of people of African descent.

The 2026 theme, The Future Speaks Afro-Creole, calls on communities worldwide to celebrate their shared linguistic heritage, strengthen the transmission of Afro-Creole languages to future generations, and recognise these languages as dynamic, living languages that continue to connect communities across continents.
